Pets of all shapes and sizes are not only wonderful companions, they provide comfort, reduce loneliness and studies have shown that they can even reduce blood pressure! Pet therapy is a key activity here at Knights Care. All of our homes will consider accepting pets on a case by case basis and we actually have resident rabbits and cats at some of our homes.
What are the benefits of pet therapy and why is it a key activity in our homes?
Pet therapy is quality time spent with our pets, stroking them, grooming them and cuddling them. Our residents find this activity incredibly calming and relaxing and our pets love being spoilt with lots of cuddles!
The benefits from interacting with animals are huge and pets have even been found to:
- Reduce blood pressure
- Decrease cholesterol
- Decrease triglyceride levels
- Reduce feelings of loneliness
Not only do our residents thoroughly enjoy their time with our pets, they also adore caring for them, grooming them and (for those who are able) feeding them. All pet therapy is well supervised to ensure the safety of our pets and residents and to make sure that everyone gets the most out of their time spent together.
Pet therapy is a scheduled activity and our amazing teams are just brilliant because they not only plan and supervise therapy, they also look after our pets and ensure they are well cared for (spoilt)!
