We are pleased to announce the appointment of Elijah Gumise as our new Director of Mental Health. Elijah brings a wealth of experience and a passion for outstanding person-centred care to this pivotal role within Knights Care.
In this position Elijah will oversee the Knights Care Mental Health Programmes and will work closely with our Clinical Director to mentor, direct and support our Care Home Management Teams in behaviour management and resident mental health. He will also oversee mental health compliance, commission new services and expand on the existing behavioural care services which we currently offer.
Elijah will also be supporting staff development with mental health and behaviour management training, as well as creating an environment and culture of trust, openness and effective team working.
We've asked Elijah to share a bit about himself, and his extensive experience and optimism fills us with every confidence that he is the perfect fit for this exciting new position!
“I am a qualified mental health nurse of some 24yrs. My experience is varied. My first job was in a High Secure Mental Health Hospital. I then moved onto to my next challenge, working as a Mental Health Nurse in A&E. This was a very rewarding and challenging part of career. The hustle and bustle of a busy A/E department is certainly not for the faint hearted. I progressed from that into Management setting up, developing and leading multiple Crisis services/teams. I will forever be grateful for this phase in my career as this was when I really decided that I wanted to progress into leadership roles as I wanted to help shape services and transform people’s lives. I did that for a few years before a brief stint as a mental health ICS Commissioner/case manager. Over the last 18mths I was the Deputy Director of a private Acute MH provider. I joined Knights Care on the 09th June as the Director of Mental Health and I can say In the short time I have been here, I have truly felt welcomed and appreciated. I am really looking forward to working with you all"
