Today, we proudly opened our new Rainbow Unit, a dedicated end-of-life care space at our home, with Adam Knights, Managing Director, officially cutting the ribbon.

The Rainbow Unit, located on the top floor of the home, has been thoughtfully created to provide residents with a private area away from the main parts of the home as they approach the final stages of life. This dedicated space reflects our commitment to delivering the highest standards of comfort, dignity, and support during end-of-life care.

Previously, the top floor was home to the Jasmine Unit, a specialist care unit supporting residents with higher levels of care need. However, after careful reflection, the team felt there was a better and more meaningful use for the space. The creation of the Rainbow Unit now ensures that this area serves a vital purpose — offering peace, privacy, and compassionate support at one of life’s most important stages.
The decision to create the Rainbow Unit was made with one clear aim: to provide a calm, relaxing, and reassuring environment where residents feel safe, respected, and cared for, while also supporting their families through an incredibly important time.
We have also included a dedicated family lounge and a private family bedroom. These spaces allow loved ones to spend meaningful time together, gather their thoughts, and step away when needed. The family bedroom will be especially valuable for relatives travelling from further away, enabling them to stay close to their loved one.

We would also like to give special praise to Clare of the homes Activities Team for painting the beautiful wall mural in the unit. The creativity and care gone into this has added a truly personal and uplifting touch to the space, helping to make the Rainbow Unit feel even more warm and welcoming.

Adam Knights, Managing Director, said:
“Today is a proud moment for all of us. The Rainbow Unit has finally found its true purpose — to provide a peaceful, dignified space for residents and their loved ones at the most important time. I’m incredibly proud of the Drovers team for their care, compassion, and commitment in making this possible, and of what this unit will mean to the families we support.”
A great deal of care and hard work has gone into creating the Rainbow Unit, and we are proud to share a few photos showing the transformation from preparation to opening day. The Rainbow Unit is a meaningful addition to our home and a reflection of our ongoing commitment to compassionate, respectful, and person-centred care at every stage of a resident’s journey.
